Foster + Partners is a global studio for architecture, urbanism and design, rooted in sustainability, which was founded fifty years ago in 1967 by Norman Foster. Since then, he and the team around him have established an international practice with a worldwide reputation for thoughtful and pioneering design, working as a single studio that is both ethnically and culturally diverse. The studio integrates the skills of architecture with engineering, both structural and environmental, urbanism, interior and industrial design, model and film making, aeronautics and many more – our collegiate working environment is similar to a compact university. We approach the design of housing as a vehicle to integrate living and working with the urban fabric, and many of our schemes have successfully created dynamic urban quarters. We design spaces that anticipate and respond to the way people want to live, offsetting cultural and architectural continuity with a sustainable and contemporary context for urban living. Housing on a larger scale brings other opportunities, not least to examine how we might live more sustainably in the city. With the trend towards clean, quiet industries we have the potential to develop buildings that combine places to live, with those in which to work or relax.

We specialize in urban and landscape revitalization. We design public spaces, cities, and landscapes to respond and adapt to changes in climate, demographics, and economies. We advise on project strategies for clients thinking about what’s next. We research new applications for technologies, infrastructures, and ecologies in ways that transform people’s experiences. We imagine new possibilities, creating value and vibrancy in challenging places.

We work primarily in the public realm, regardless of whether our clients are cities, public agencies, institutions, or private interests. And we’re involved in projects of many kinds: urban and campus and ecological spaces; regional and urban strategies; multi-scale landscape infrastructures; development and re-development projects; parks and open spaces; furnishings and exhibitions.
